Possession is a technique used by the Doll of Mabashi, Ritz.
Description
The primary power of Ritz is her ability to possess other beings, which she does by flying toward her victim and tunneling into their chest without physically harming them before attaching herself to their Soul; from here, the target's eyes become unfocused, signaling that Ritz has complete control of their body,[1] and the upper portion of their head often becomes shadowed as well,[2] while the Soul of the victim gains a large, plant-like growth on its chest with multiple veins and roots spreading outward, which is where Ritz is located. When possessing someone, Ritz can make use of their spiritual powers, such as Kidō, and eject them from a Gigai to access their true power if they are in one.[3] She can also hide her presence within a being's Soul in order to trick and surprise Mabashi's enemies.[2] Ritz becomes so intricately bound to the Soul of her victim that the only option available to most of Mabashi's enemies is to kill the possessed individuals.[3][2]
However, this ability is not without limitations. With sufficient willpower, a host of Ritz can temporarily overcome her control in order to stop attacking and speak to their allies. Though separating Ritz from her host body is usually impossible, Orihime Inoue's Sōten Kisshun, which rejects all phenomena within its scope, managed to do just that, something Ritz had never experienced before.[3] Additionally, if the host bodies of Ritz are rendered unconscious, Ritz will not be able to control them until they regain consciousness, allowing for nonlethal incapacitation. Finally, despite her size and durability, Ritz can be prevented from entering a host body to begin with by a sufficient force, as demonstrated when Suì-Fēng blew Ritz away from herself with the activation of her wind-type Shunkō.[2]
